The Department of Architecture, AlMughtaribeen University will be an outstanding department  in the field of preparing efficient and highly qualified architects and planners who will reshape the built environment on both local and global levels.

To educate architects, aesthetically and scientifically to carry out their endorsed role, with the required efficiency.

The course will help the students:

  • Develop skills is critical inquiry that would enable them to broaden their frame of reference making them better able to practice not only locally, but also internationally, in a world becoming smaller due to globalisation
  • Develop an appreciation for history of architecture. Develop the ability to collaborate with other professions
  • Understand the intrinsic values that shape national and regional vernacular architecture which is expected to have impacts on present practice in architecture, landscape and urban design.
  •  Develop the ability to design contextually with regards to site and social, physical, economic and cultural setting. Being able to deal creatively with the constraints of a design project
  • Design both site and building to accommodate users with varying physical abilities. Understanding Ergonomics and the relationship of the characteristics, proportions and dimensions of the human body with regards to space and objects in space
  • Sustainability: understand the principles of sustainable architecture and urban design with a view to the conservation of natural and cultural resources.
  • Programming: ability to prepare a comprehensive program for an architectural project that covers identification of client and user needs, a critical review of relevant precedents, space and equipment requirements, an analysis of site conditions, proper assessment of the local bye-laws and standards, and their impact on the project, and definition of site selection and design assessment criteria.
  • Structural Systems: understanding the principles of structural behavior in withstanding gravity, and lateral forces and the evolution, range and appropriate application of reliable structural systems.
  • Environmental Systems: understanding the basic principles and appropriate applications, and performance of environmental systems, including acoustical, lighting, climate modification systems, and energy use, integrated with the building envelope.
  • Safety: understanding the basics of safety systems with special emphasis on escape exits.
  • Building Envelope Systems: understanding the basic principles and appropriate applications and performance of building envelope materials and their assembly techniques.
  • Building Services Systems: understanding the basic principles and appropriate application and performance of plumbing, electricity, and vertical transportation systems.
  • Integration of Building Systems: ability to assess, select, and conceptually integrate structural systems, building envelope components, environmental systems, safety systems, and building services systems into building design
  • Constructions Cost Control: understanding the fundamentals of building cost, life-cycle cost and construction cost estimation.
  • Technical Documentation; ability to prepare technically precise drawings and write specifications for a proposed project
  • Client Role: understanding the responsibility of the architect to his client, reading properly the client needs and resolving these needs in the most appropriate manner.
  • Comprehensive Design: ability to produce a comprehensive architectural project that includes all the above-mentioned components and systems in a manner that ensures proper functioning that satisfies sustainability requisites.
  • Ability to obtain commissions: negotiating contracts, managing personnel, selecting consultants, recommending delivery methods and forms of contracts.
  • Professional Practice: understanding the basic principles and legal aspects of practice organizations, financial management, risk avoidance, and mediation and arbitration
  • Professional Development: understanding the basic and legal aspects of registration and promotion up the professional ladder, need for training and the necessity of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Leadership: ability to lead and control the building team from the stage of inception, through design process, the construction stage up to project commissioning.
  • Legal Responsibilities: understanding the architect's responsibility as defined in registration laws, building by-laws, professional service contracts and environmental regulations.
  • Ethics of Professional Judgment: understanding the ethical issues involved in making professional judgment in architectural design and practice.
  • Research Skills: ability to collect assesses record and applies relevant information in any architectural work.
  • Formal Ordering Systems: understanding the fundamentals of visual perception and the principles and systems of order that inform two and three-dimensional design, architectural composition and urban design.
  • Fundamental design skills: develop an understanding of basic architecture principles with a view to informing the design of buildings, interior spaces and sites.
